Kedar Dome peak is a dome shaped mountain in Garhwal range of Himalayas in Uttarakhand India. The peak is 6831 meters above sea level and serves as a ski down peak if the weather is favorable. Kedar dome is relatively easy peak to climb, but would require past climbing experience and ability to survive in high altitude Himalayan weather. Kedar Dome lies on a spur projecting towards the Gangotri glacier, two kilometers northwest of Kedarnath. It is a magnificent marvel of nature and holds sentimental values to Hindus - as the peaks name itself is that of Lord Shiva. All in all Kedar dome peak climb demands courage and ability to survive against the odds. Kedarnath and Kedar Dome were first climbed together, in 1947, by a Swiss team led by Andr Roch.
Day 1: Drive from Delhi to Rishikesh via Haridwar (Drive 250km./7hrs.)
Day 2: Drive from Rishikesh to uttarkashi (1150mt./Drive 175km./7hrs.)
Day 3: Drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri (3040mt./Drive 99km./ 6hrs.)
Day 4: Acclimatization in Gangotri
Day 5: Trek from Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3792mt./Trek14km./6hrs.)
Day 6: Trek from Bhojbasa to Tapovan (4400mt.) Trek through Gaumukh (4000mt.)(Trek 8km./7hrs.)
Day 7: Acclimatization in Tapovan.
Day 8: Trek to Base of Kedar Dome/ Khara Patthar (4700mt./Trek 6km./4hrs.)
Day 9 -10: Skills practice at Base Camp/ Kirti Glacier.
Day 11- 12: Shuttle loads and ESTABLISHING Camp I (5300 mt.)
Day 13 - 14: Climb to high CAMP II (6150 mt.)/ spare day.
Day 15/16/17: Days for summit Kedar dome (6831 mt.)
Day 18 - 19: Wind up higher Camps and move to Base Camp.
Day 20: Trek to Tapovan.
Day 21: trek to Chirbasa via Gaumukh/ Bhojbasa (3600mt./Trek 14km./6hrs.)
Day 22: Trek to Gangotri and Drive to Uttarkashi.
Day 23: Drive to Rishikesh.
Day 24: Drive from Rishikesh to Delhi.
Day 01: Delhi- Haridwar - Rishikesh (Train/ Drive. /230 Km. /6hrs.)
Early morning transfer to the railway station to catch the express train to Haridwar. The train journey takes approximately 4 hours. Arriving at Haridwar at lunch time midway, 0ne hrs. Short drive to Rishikesh on the banks of the Ganges. check in the hotel. Afternoon visit some of the temples of this holy town Rishikesh Himalayas and in the evening we will witness the ceremony. Shortly after sunset, the ‘puja’ is performed in all of the temples lining the river at the same time, with a cacophony of musical instruments and voices. Afterwards, offerings of lamps and flowers are made to the Ganges and it is a moving sight to watch hundreds of miniature lamps float along the river. Overnight & Dinner at hotel.
Day 02: RISHIKESH – UTTARKASHI (1150 mt./ Drive 178 km./ 6 hrs.)
After breakfast drive to Uttarkashi (1150 m).Upon arrival check in to the Hotel. In the afternoon proceed to visit India’s premier Mountaineering institute ‘Nehru Institute of Mountaineering’. This national institute imparts mountaineering training to young people to inculcate the spirit of adventure among the youth of the country. Uttarkashi is an attractive small town situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi It is also this place is famous for its temples, including the Vishwanath temple just to the north of the town & gateway to many mountaineering and trekking expedition in Gangotri area. The day to explore around Uttarkashi. Overnight in Hotel & Dinner.
Day 03: UTTARKASHI – GANGOTRI (3048 mt./10000 ft./ Drive 99 km./6 hrs.)
Drive to Gangotri in the morning. Gangotri is the starting points for this trek. Here you will meet your trekking crew and porters. In the evening, you will witness the puja and aarti at Gangotri temple – one of the four sacred dhams for Hindu in the Himalayas. Overnight stay & Dinner at Hotel.
Day 04: ACCLAMIZATION AT GANGOTRI.
Day 05: GANGOTRI - BHOJBASA (3792 mt./12440 ft/ Trek (14 km./7 hrs).
The walk begins with gradual ascent through pine trees, alongside the roaring Bhagirathi river with towering cliffs on your left hand side. This trail keeps following the river and just short of Chirbasa, we will get the astonishing views of the Bhagirathi Peaks. Chirbasa literally meaning “the home of pine tree”, is situated at 3600 m. We reach our campsite surrounded by birch and pine trees.Overnight in tents & Dinner.
Day 06: BHOJBASA – GAUMUKH (4000mt.) –TAPOVAN (4432 mt./14536ft./Trek 9 km./ 8 hrs.)
Early in the Morning enjoy the panoramic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. After breakfast trek to Gaumukh (3890mt), the source of the Ganges. Gaumukh is where the water of Ganga trickles down from the glaciers. The sages called it 'Gaumukh', because in the distant past, it probably appeared like a cow's mouth. Explore the area and trek to Tapovan, one of the finest high altitude alpine meadows in the area.
Day 07: REST / ACCLAMIZATION AT TAPOVAN.
Tapovan is a breathtaking grassy meadow at 14,536 feet, directly below the shear east face of Shivling (21,461 feet). Tapovan can be translates as forest of spiritual practice, wild place for practicing austerities It is barren area at about 4,400m elevation, is a seasonal home to various Sadhus living in caves, etc. Overnight in tent & dinner.
Day 08: TAPOVAN – BASE CAMP /KHARA PATTHAR (4700mt./Trek 6km./4hrs.)
Kedar Dome Base Camp is called Khara Patthar and is located at 16,000 feet. The trek is not long and the elevation gain is not great, but the air becomes noticeably thinner. Overnight in tent & dinner.
Day 09/10: SKILLS PRACTICE AT BASE CAMP/ KHARA PATHHAR.
At Khara Patthar we will cover the climbing and glacier travel techniques essential to climb the route. Skills to be covered include an introduction and review of mountaineering knots, mountain ice axe and crampon use, and techniques for roped travel. These two days also provide an important acclimatization time and include small day hikes and shuttling loads to high camp. These days can be utilized in adjusting the loads also as the BC staff will stay here only. Overnight at Camp.
Day 11/12: SHUTTLE LOADS AND OCCUPY CAMP I (5300 mt.)
The climbing is not steep, though the air becomes increasingly thin and the views grow immense. Shivling to the west and The Bhagirathi peaks to the north show off their massive granite walls. Overnight Member Camp I
Day 13/14: CAMP I – CAMP II (6150mt.)
These days climbing to camp II from Camp I or spare day. Overnight in Camp II.
Day 15/16/17: SUMMIT THE KEDAR DOME (6831 mt.) - SUMMIT CAMP.
The days are to climb the 6831 m high Kedar Dome available. This is enough time to actually allow for normal weather and snow conditions to each participant at least a realistic chance. If the bearings are built and are adequately furnished with food and fuel, then it has certainly also well used to the altitude and can leave for the first summit attempt. The climb itself is for experienced mountaineers Alpine technically not difficult, but because of the large amount still a challenge in itself. From the summit you have a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains, especially on the famous Shivling. The descent requires full concentration again. For ski tourers that concern the summit ascent with touring, the descent ideally inclined slopes with good snow is certainly the icing on the cake of a fantastic tour. After climbing the peak, Back to the camp II./ Overnight in Camp II.
Day 18/19: WIND UP HIGHER CAMPS AND DOWN TO BASE CAMP.
Day 20: BASE CAMP – TAPOVAN (Trek / 4hrs.)
After breakfast trek to Tapovan it take approximate time is 3-4 hrs. Overnight in tent & dinner.
Day 21: TAPOVAN – GAUMUKH – CHIRBASA (3600 mt./Trek 13km./6hrs.)
Another boulder hop along the Gangotri glacier to its snout at Gangotri & Trek down to Cheerbasa via Bhojbasa. Overnight in tents & Dinner.
Day 22: CHEERBASA – GANGOTRI – UTTAEKASHI (Trek 9 km./ Drive 99km./8hrs.)
After breakfast carry on the trail to reach Gangotri (4hrs) and board the waiting vehicles to drive back to the Uttarkashi for the comforts of hot shower & Comfortable rest at hotel. Overnight in hotel & Dinner.
Day 23: UTTARKASHI – HARIDWAR – DELHI ( Drive 190 km./Train /10hrs.)
After breakfast drive from Uttarkashi to Haridwar and board the evening Shatabdi Express to be back in Delhi by 10:45pm. Overnight in hotel & dinner.
