A throbbing getaway to the foothills of the Himalaya into the wild, Corbett National Park, which is located in Uttarakhand along the banks of River Ramganaga, clamps down on several activities like jungle safaris, birding, trekking, fishing, camping and elephant rides. Natural area in southern Uttarakhand state, northern India. It was established as Hailey National Park in 1936 and was first renamed Ramganga in the mid-1950s, before the name was changed to Corbett later that decade in memory of Jim Corbett, a well-known British sportsman and writer. The park itself occupies an area of 201 square miles (521 square km). It is part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve, which includes adjacent protected areas and has a total area of 497 square miles (1,288 square km). It is India’s oldest national park.

How to Reach Corbett

Ramnagar is perhaps the best approach to the Corbett National Park which forms the headquarters of CTR. This small city is well connected by road and rail network with major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital and Bareilly. Once you reach Ramnagar, then it takes only half an hour to reach Corbett National Park. The park is around 15 Kms from Ramnagar railway station.

By Road: Ramnagar has a very good network of road that connects the different cities. The Corbett National Park is situated at an approximate surface distance of 260 Kilometer from India's national capital Delhi. The state government of Uttarakhand plies buses at a short interval of time from Delhi, Moradabad, Haldawani, and Nainital that reaches Corbett directly.

By Rail: The railway station in Ramnagar receives trains from different major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad and Bareilly. A direct train to Ramnagar runs from Delhi. You can check out for Ranikhet Express, Corbett Link Express and Kathgodam Express that takes you directly to Ramnagar.

Safari Timings in Corbett:

To dig into the wild the Forest Department has set fixed timings specifically for each zone. The Safari timings are divided into two schedules, morning and afternoon. From October to March, the morning safari starts from 07 and the afternoon safari is from 2.00. From April to June the morning safaris are from 5.45 whereas the afternoon safari from 03:00. Only for the Dhikala Zone, the afternoon safari starts from 11.30 from November to March considering from April to June the afternoon safari is scheduled from 12.30 pm.


The Corbett National Park is an abode to several endangered species. Leopards are easily spotted whereas the Corbett Tiger Reserve also houses Bengal Tigers, which lies in wait. Nonetheless  barking deer, sambar deer, hog deer and chital, Sloth and Himalayan black bears, Indian grey mongoose, otters, yellow-throated martens, Himalayan goral, Indian pangolins, and langur and Rhesus macaques are quite often spotted. The park also includes several species of cats like the jungle cat, fishing cat and leopard cat. One of the major attractions is the Indian python and the park is also a haven to several species of birds like the crested serpent eagle, blossom-headed parakeet and the red jungle fowl. Further there are more than 500 species of birds, 33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians, seven species of fish and 36 species of dragonflies that makes it a WILD DEN to the WHIZZ WILDERS (travellers onto jungle safaris).


Corbett is just not a wildlife sanctuary but is also an ideal place to familiarize with several species of plant life. It is an absolute haven to nature lovers and the whispering ambiance simple makes it an ideal destination for wildlife photography. The forest ranges from Chir Pine and Banj Oak to Kanju, Date Palms, Jamun, Aamla, Bel, Kusum, Mahua and Bakli. The Corbett National Park is also popular for several species of flowers like Kachnaar (Bauhinia variegata) with pink to white flowers, Semal (Bombax ceiba) with big red blooms, Dhak or Flame-of-the-forest (Butea monosperma) with bright orange flowers, Madaar or Indian Coral (Erythrinia indica) with scarlet red flowers and Amaltas (Cassia fistula) with bright yellow chandelier.

Corbett Park’s virgin forest and jungle are home to numerous species of fauna. The rich biodiversity of the park is a perfect place for bird enthusiasts; the area is considered as one of the best bird-watching areas in India, with some 600 species having been sighted in the park. Today we will have two safaris in the Jungle to spot the wildlife and to explore the Corbett National Park. With tigers and elephants ruling this area, Corbett Reserve is the area where the abundance of wildlife can be found with the majority of finest species like Leopard, Himalayan Gorals, wild Boars, Langurs, Indian pangolins, Porcupine, Sambhar & Chital, Barking, otters, ghoral (goat-antelopes), Hog Deer and more. Some of the birds commonly seen here are Osprey, Black Winged Kite, Shikra, Crested Serpent Eagle, Pallas' Fishing Eagle, Spotted Eagle, Babblers, Minivets and Shrikes etc. Later, we return to the resort for breakfast and lunch. When Visit

Corbett National Park remains open throughout the year for the visitors from Jhrina / Sitabani Zones . Every year Bijarani zone get operational from Mid of October and The core area of the national park Dhikala zone get operational from 15th of Nov. The main reason for closure of the Bijarani and Dhikala zone during the rest of the year is that during the monsoons most of the roads get washed away. Repair work starts after the rains end and it is only by October to November that roads to Bijarani and Dhikala are back in motorable condition.
