Nanda devi east- Milam glacier trekking

Nanda Devi is the second highest mountain in India, it is located in the state of Uttarakhand, between the Rishiganga valley on the west and the Goriganga valley on the east. Its name means Bliss-Giving Goddess. The peak is regarded as the patron-goddess of the Uttarakhand Himalaya. It is a two- peaked massif forming a 2 km long ridge towards from east to west. The west summit is higher forming the main peak, and the eastern summit is called as Nanda Devi East. Together the twin peaks are referred to as twin Peaks of Goddess Nanda.
Nanda Devi East Trek starts from the beautiful town of Munsyari (2290 mts) and the route ascends up the Gori Ganga river gorge which separates the Nanda Devi group from the beautiful peaks of the Panch Chulli group. There are quaint Himalayan settlements on the way and villages like Burphu and Martoli have houses that are at least one hundred and fifty years old reminding every one of the extent of Indo-Tibetan trade through the old silk route. Five days of steady walking takes you to Pachu glacier (3950 mts) the base camp area for Nanda Devi East.

  • Nandadevi is India's highest 'self-owned' peak atr 7816 meters.
  • Nandadevi East is one of the twin peak of Nandadevi at 7434 meters
  • Milam glacier, the source of Gori Ganga
