PANWALI KANTHA TREKKING,, INDIA

Panwali kantha is located between the Gangotri and Sri Kedarnath axis. Hence it can easily be reached from both Gangotri side and Sri Kedarnath side. From Gangotri side the trek starts from uttarkashi and from Sri Kedarnath side it starts from Triyuginarain.Panwali Kantha has many beautiful bygyals(Meadows) along this  trekking route. The pretty and  peaceful Panwali kantha bugyals lie at far flung heights, ranging from 2745 mt to 3970 mt on the old pilgrim trail from Gangotri to Sri Kedarnath.  They are open grasslands and undulating slopes studded with patches of forests.  With the advent of summer, the snows melt and the flowers and herbs blossom forth to carpet the Panwali kantha bugyal with a riot of colors.

Day 3: Uttarkashi- Lata – Belak (2571 mt. /Drive 22km & trek 15 km /7 hrs.)
Day 4: Belak-Budhakedar (Agunda) (1524 mt./Trek 11 km /5hrs.)
Day 5: Budhakedar- Bahiron Chatti (2500 mt. /Trek 9 km. / 5hrs.)

Itinerary

PANWALI KANTHA TREK

 

Day 01: DEHLI – HARIDWAR – RISHIKESH (Train/Drive / 6hrs.)

Eearly morning transfer to the railway station to catch the express train to Haridwar. The train journey takes approximately 4 hours. Arriving at Haridwar at lunch time midway, 0ne hrs. Short drive to Rishikesh on the banks of the Ganges. check in the hotel. Afternoon visit some of the temples of this holy town Rishikesh Himalayas  and in the evening we will witness the ceremony. Shortly after sunset, the ‘puja’ is performed in all of the temples lining the river at the same time, with a cacophony of musical instruments and voices. Afterwards, offerings of lamps and flowers are made to the Ganges and it is a moving sight to watch hundreds of miniature lamps float along the river. Overnight in Hotel & Dinner.

 

Day 02: RISHIKESH - UTTRAKASHI (1150 mt./Drive 178 km./ 6 hrs.)

After breakfast drive to Uttarkashi (1150 mt).Upon arrival check in to the Hotel. In the afternoon proceed to visit India’s premier Mountaineering institute ‘Nehru Institute of Mountaineering’.  This national institute imparts mountaineering training to young people to inculcate the spirit of adventure among the youth of the country. Uttarkashi is an attractive small town situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi It is also this place is famous for  its temples, including the Vishwanath temple just to the north of the town & gateway to many mountaineering and trekking expedition in Gangotri area. The day to explore around Uttarkashi. Overnight in Hotel & Dinner.

 

Day 03: UTTRAKASHI – MALLA - BELAK (2571 mt./Drive 22 km./ Trek 15 km./ 7 hrs.)

After breakfast leave (22 km drive, 15 km of trek) for Mala by road. Arrive Mala and prepare to go for the trek. Start the ordeal with mountains and climb to Belak at 2571 mt. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

 

Day 04: BELAK – BUDHAKEDAR (1524mt. /Trek 14 km./6 hrs.)

In the morning after having our breakfast we will trek to the village of Budhakedar, an important place in Garhwal which houses the old temple of Kedar (Shiva). The people of this village are mostly farmers. Enroute we will passes the tiny villages like Pangrana, Jhala & Agunda. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

 

Day 05: BUDHAKEDAR - BHARION CHATTI (2500 mt. / Trek 9 km. / 6hrs.)

After breakfast trek to  Bhairon Chatti (2500mt.) the first hour of the walk takes you to the beautiful village of vinaykhal, located atop a hill, with another impressive temple. This part of the walk through pine forest and climbs gradually to vinaykhall. The last hour of steep climb in a rhododendron forest, gets you in the beautiful meadow top Bhaironchatti camp is set for strength. This meadow is a village that is the temple dedicated to the Hindu god Bhairon where the newlyweds from the nearby villages to come for the blessing of the gods for a long and happy married life. Gender couples a bell at the door of the temple to offer them to God. The views of the mountains from this high meadow are breathtaking and the days you can see the snowy peaks of the distant Garhwal Himalayas. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

Day 06: BHARION CHATTI - GHUTTU (1524 mt. / Trek 12 km. /6 hrs.)

In the morning after having our breakfast we will trek to the village of Budhakedar, an important place in Garhwal which houses the old temple of Kedar (Shiva). The people of this village are mostly farmers. Enroute we will passes the tiny villages like Pangrana, Jhala & Agunda. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

 

Day 07: GHUTTU - PANWALI KANTHA (3970 mt. /Trek18 km /8 hrs)

Start early morning to  long steep trek  to Panwali (3970 mt.) , another high mountain meadow where you will have magnificent panoramic views across the Garhwal Himalayas including Gangotri I, II, III, Kedarnath, Kedardome, Chaukhamba , Trisul, Kamet, Nanda Devi and many other peaks. The walk is arranged on a path through a thick forest climbing very gradually. Panwali, summer is also the settlement of Gujjars, Muslim tribe that wanders from place to place with his cattle herd.  Once on top of the pass, it's like entering a paradise .... From the top of the card the way down to the small Panwali been Regulation village of huts and a small ashram meant for Chardham pilgrims. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

Day 08: PANWALIKANTHA –TRIJUGI NARAYAN (1982 mt./ Trek 17 km./8 hrs.

Start early for the village of Temple Trijugi narayan, while in Hindu mythology, Shiva got married to Parvati .. Some villagers here claim to be the descendants of the priests who performed the ritual Wedding Shiva and Parvati! The village has an ancient temple where the wedding took place and an important place of pilgrimage for Hindus who visit this temple of the whole country, even marriage, The first half hour of the walk in a rhododendron forest gradually decreasing. From here on the path is longer Panwali peak, with several ups and downs, offers panoramic views of each side and is an experience in itself. A steep descent through dense bush take you to Triuginarain. Camp is just above the village. Overnight in Tents & Dinner.

 

Day 09: TRIJUGI NARYAN – SONPARYAG – KEDARNATH TEMPLE (3584 mt. /Drive 12 km./Trek 18 km./ 9hrs.)

Today very long day to Kedarnath Temple. After flood 2013 the all the place en route of Kedarnath destroyed like Gaurikund the place of wife of Shiva and all street where from all the visitors pass through, now you can see only big bolders and different path to Kedarnath. The path is full of pilgrims from all over India, dressed in different costumes, and it is great to see. Kedarnath is a large temple and the village center stands the ancient temple of Kedarnath was built by the Pandavas (Mahabharat celebrity) Legend has it that the temple was built by the Pandavas to atone their sins after the great Mahabharat war. Late evening the witness of the shiva puja at temple and blessing.Overnight in Guest house & Dinner.

 

DAY 10: KEDARNATH - RUDRAPARYAG (620 mt./ Trek 18 km./ Drive 74 km./ 9 hrs.)

A after breakfast, we trek to Sonparyag. Here are our vehicles are waiting  and drive us to Rudraprayag, which is located at the confluence of the Mandakini Alakhnanda and the river that descends from Badrinath.Overnight in Hotel & Dinner.

 

Day 11: RUDRAPRYAG – HARIDWAR – DELHI (Drive 160 km. / Train / 10 hrs.)

Today you drive down to Haridwar, Gate of God & Goddess in Himalayas in India. You will get to visit the famous Ghats (holy bathing area) Har ki paudi ( foot prints of lord Vishnu , where  the all  Hindu pilgrims take holy bath and board the train from here for Delhi. Arrive late night at 2245 pm at Delhi Railway station & transfer to hotel. Overnight In Hotel & Dinner.
