Mt Sudarshan Parbat (6507mt.) is a mountain hard to miss on the trek from Gangotri towards Gaumukh. It is the first big mountain visible on the true right side of the valley. It was first climbed by an Indo-French team led by Harish Kapadia in 1981. In these days, the general approach is via the West Ridge. The trek to base camp is through the famous Gangotri Glacier. Gangotri glacier itself is a sight beyond words. Flanked by beautiful and imposing peaks. It is fed by numerous side glaciers, which in turn are fed by other smaller glaciers. All these glaciers creating side valleys with peaks and passes to ponder.Sudarshan is a tricky peak, primarily due to some steep portions on the summit ridge and secondarily due to the notorious weather of the region. The weather may turn foul any time of the day, and that’s why it’s recommended to venture in this area with ample time in hand.
